Wise Counsel is a small-group peer supervision programme, and has been running successfully since 2008.
It is registered for Continuing Professional Development purposes with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and the South African Council for Social Service Professionals, and provides a substantial proportion of the CEUs required annually for those registered with these bodies. Currently three groups are active, and meet at times convenient for members.
Groups meet once a month, and size is restricted to between four and six members per group to allow maximum opportunity for participation. Discussions have ranged widely within a safe and confidential space for reflection.
Many issues discussed in the Wise Counsel are clearly common problems faced in different contexts. This has lead to the idea of Shrinkrap, which is hoped to become a place where counsellors in schools can post perspectives on these issues. Shrinkrap is a very new idea, though, so there is plenty of scope to add more contributions to the library.
